Sofia Shakir, M.D. is a Chicago native. She spent her childhood on the north side and completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Chicago. She attended medical school in Karachi, Pakistan at the Aga Khan Medical College. She then completed her residency training at Cook County Hospital where she fell in love with her rotation in Behavior and Development under the tutelage of Dr. Robert Gatson, himself a protégé of the well renowned Dr Terry T. Brazelton. She is passionate about teaching.
After completing a chief residency year she joined Pediatric Health Associates. She absolutely loves supporting families on their journey through parenthood and childhood. She is especially passionate about supporting first time moms.
Dr. Shakir uses pediatric hypnosis to help patients learn how to manage their response to challenges. Whether physical or emotional, hypnosis can help children conquer fears, help them build their confidence and learn relaxation techniques to help them to be less anxious.
When not working at the office she can be found hanging out with her three generous and compassionate kids and husband.
Dr. Shakir is fluent in Hindi and Urdu and is comfortable speaking in Spanish.
